Help Support Luis Barrera and His Family Through a Medical Crisis

My name is Raul Delgado, and for 14 years I had the privilege of leading the food service program at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois. Though I retired in 2021, the bond I share with many of the incredible team members I worked alongside remains deeply personal and unbreakable.

One of those individuals is Luis Barrera, a devoted cook who has faithfully served the Wheaton College community for over 18 years. Luis is not just an employee who worked for me—he’s family. If I ever needed someone to stay late, come in early, or give up a day off, Luis never hesitated. His answer was always “yes.” He gave everything he had to his job—not for recognition, but to provide for the people he loves most.

A few months ago, Luis suffered a devastating stroke. He underwent emergency surgery and spent several weeks in the hospital. By God’s grace, he is now home, but the road ahead is long and uncertain. Luis cannot work, and tragically, his wife Concepcion lost her job while trying to care for him full-time. Their daughter, Pamela, is doing all she can—attending community college while working to provide the family’s only income.

With no health insurance, Luis is unable to receive the physical therapy he urgently needs to recover. Medical bills are piling up. Basic needs—rent, utilities, food—have become overwhelming burdens.

I am reaching out to ask for your prayers first and foremost. Pray for healing, strength, and peace for Luis and his family. And if you are able, I humbly ask you to consider giving whatever you can. Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward Luis’s medical care and his family’s living expenses during this incredibly difficult time.

Luis has always been there for others—quietly, humbly, and without complaint. Now, I hope we can be there for him.

Hola, mi nombre es Raúl Delgado y durante 14 años lideré el programa de servicio de alimentos para Wheaton College en Wheaton Illinois. Aunque me retiré de ese puesto en 2021, la conexión con los muchos empleados increíbles que trabajaron para mí sigue siendo fuerte. Una de esas personas es un cocinero dedicado llamado Luis Barrera. Luis ha trabajado en la universidad durante más de 18 años. Hace unos meses, Luis sufrió un terrible derrame cerebral. Se sometió a una cirugía y estuvo hospitalizado durante varias semanas antes de finalmente regresar a casa.
