Luca Project 2025
  • Look - Look around and see what you can do to keep our beaches clean and safe.
  • Understand - Understand the impact we have on our beaches in keeping them clean and safe for all to use.
  • Care - Care about your community and make sure it is here for all to enjoy for generations to come.
  • Act - See something, do something - help to pick up trash, fill in holes; any little thing can make a difference.

My name is Luca Terracciano and I am currently a 3rd grader at my local elementary school. I've been in the gifted program at my school since Kindergarten, and as of 3rd grade, each of the gifted students has to come up with a community project that can help to benefit our local community and be something that I might be able to build on through my 5th grade year and beyond.
After the devastating storms last year left my community and beaches in shambles, I decided I wanted to focus on something that I thought could help, especially at the beaches, where my family and I live. Something that we noticed is that many times as we walk along, there are bits of trash and debris that inevitably end up in our oceans, which in turn can end up in the bellies of unassuming sea life. So with that in mind, I want to build and install a Better Beach Bucket Tree which would help and/or inspire others to do their part in keeping our beaches clean. With the help of my local town officials in Redington Beach, I was granted permission to install one of my bucket trees at our main beach entrance. My goal is to start out at our local beach, but hopefully present the project to other local beaches and be able to install more Bucket Trees along our waterways through the help of doantions. The buckets can provide many different ways to help keep our beaches clean. One way is that many people walk the beach, so the idea is to grab a bucket to collect bits of trash along the way to be distributed into the correct trash outlets while enjoying your walk. Another use for the bucket tree is to help fill in holes that might have been left unfilled along the beach, especially during Turtle Nesting time. Lastly, the buckets might be able to help those who come to the beach and may have forgotten a trash bag of their own, to keep their trash contained and able to distribute in the appropriate containers at the end of their day.
I am hoping with the help of your donations, I am able to build my first bucket tree and have it installed for the start of the summer beach season. My hope is that this will be a suscess and with other doantions I will be able to contiue to buid more trees for other beach communities. The beaches are an important part of my local community and I want to help to do my part to make sure they are here for years to come and for all to enjoy!
