Help Luca Get Hippocampe All Terrain Wheelchair

Hi everyone, I’m Luca’s auntie Claire I’ll start by telling you a bit about Luca.

Luca is a bright bubbly 3 year old who loves the outdoors, and getting involved in family life and play. Sadly he has a very rare genetic condition called Lesch Nyhan syndrome which affects approximately 1 in 380,000 people mainly males are affected.

Having this diagnosis means that not only is his physical abilities compromised as he uses a wheelchair daily, he is completely immobile, non-verbal, he depends on his family for all care needs and  his neurological abilities are also difficult to manage, he regularly has spasms and his muscle tone has to be medically controlled. Part of this condition means that Luca has got a tendency to self-harm, mainly with biting his fingers and therefore has had to have all of his teeth extracted.

In his short wee life so far he has been through so much, many operations including a gastrostomy, countless appointments and meetings but this does not hold him back he is one of the happiest 3 year olds that I know. We are hoping to raise some money for the Hippocampe all-terrain wheelchair to allow Luca and his wonderful family to take him to the beach and other places that he would love to be able to go e.g. the nature walks, and other fun outdoor adventures but because of his wheelchair sometimes this isn’t possible as it’s not always accessible to do so. The Hippocampe all-terrain wheelchair would make such a huge difference to little Luca’s life and allow him to take part in activities with his little sister that he isn’t currently able to do.
