Lubaina fought valiantly, but sadly, she was beaten by the fast spreading cancer in her body. 

She passed away peacefully on April 25th.

April 20th Update: Cancer has spread to the lungs and neck. I am in desperate need of a medication called Keytruda. It costs 2,00,000 Rupees which is $2500 USD per session. I do not know how many sessions I will need. I urge you all to help me as much as possible. Please pass to your family and friends. I am attaching my latest report.

My name is Lubaina Officewala. I am a post-sales manager for a reputed Mumbai construction and building firm. I currently work as much as I can from home. I am a single mother of a 16-year-old son. I live with my 72-year-old mother, Asma Officewala, who is a principal in an NGO trust school. We are a simple family living in a middle-class neighborhood of Mumbai.

I was diagnosed with cancer of the cervix on 03-03-2020. I was put on Chemotherapy and radiation from May to Oct 2020, where I took chemo twice a week. I went through a total hysterectomy in September 2020. I was fortunate that the insurance provided by my workplace covered my chemo and hospital expenses for these treatments. I was certified to be cancer free after these treatments. However, the cancer returned when I scanned in September 2021, and the horrifying illness had jumped to the neck and chest area. I was devastated by this diagnosis. Also. the side effects of the radiation caused my left hip to go into AVN mode. Avascular necrosis is the death of bone tissue due to a lack of blood supply. I now have pain in my knee and difficulty walking. I walk with a limp since the AVN has caused a limb length discrepancy wherein my left limb is smaller than the right.

I again began Chemotherapy on Oct 2021. I am fighting the cancer with chemos and immunotherapies, as advised by doctors. The scans detected the jump in the neck and chest area lymph nodes.

I have now been offered three choices for treatments. The first is a cocktail of drugs 

that cost $1,000 (Rs 80,000) a month. The second was immunotherapy twice a month for $2500 per session. The third was a different cocktail of drugs that cost $1200 a month. I took several opinions from different doctors, and we settled on the first option of (Alpelesib) 300 mg oral tablets every day + fulvestrant injection once a month) since the immunotherapy was too expensive. My insurance refused to pay for these treatments because they considered them experimental.

The generosity of friends and family has allowed me to pay for the November and December medications. I have no funds for my subsequent medications, treatments, and doctor visits. My mother's and my salary cover our living expenses and the education expenses of my son. I have no other recourse and need your help to continue my treatments and scans. Please donate whatever you can to help me battle cancer. I want to get well to be there for my son.
