In July of 2018, Correctional Officer, Ashley Crabill, was approached by one of the incarcerated women under her jurisdiction with a massive request: to take custody of her two month old child, Avianna. 

Before her 1st birthday, Avianna had already been in 3 different homes (including family members’) and had been rejected each time. Against her superior’s advice, on October 30th, 2018, Ashley agreed to take custody of little Avianna and welcomed her to Ashely’s own family consisting of herself and her two biological daughters. 

Because of this selfless act, Ashley was demoted as a Correctional Officer and took a pay cut. She did it happily though, because she knew she was giving Avianna a stable home and family. Over the past year and a half of having Avianna, she has gained full physical custody and joint legal custody of Avianna. Throughout that time, Ashley has given Avianna everything she can possibly provide. Avianna even calls Ashley, “mommy” and is an incredibly happy and healthy little girl. 

Recently, Avianna’s biological mother was released from prison and has sued Ashley for custody of Avianna. In most cases, people would agree that a child should be with their biological mother. In this case though, we believe that it is in Avianna’s best interest to stay with Ashley. 

Since she was 18, the 22 year old biological mother has been incarcerated multiple times and has failed to provide a stable home.  

While we obviously want the best for Avianna, we also want the best for her biological mother. Having the responsibility of a child while recovering is not the best path for herself or the child. 

Ashely has already put down the $5,000 retainer fee for the custody attorney. Please help her raise the rest of the amount she needs to fight for custody of Avianna so she can continue to live her warm and wonderful life under Ashley’s care. Please help so that Avianna is not ripped away from the only life and family she’s ever known.
