A huge hello to all my fabulous Lost Gay Londoners and Friends.
I'm Gage, the Founder, Director, CEO & Creative Designer at Lost Gay London on Facebook.
Since 2012, I've been busy working on a collective of London's LGBT memorabilia from the past scene we no longer are able to enjoy.
The collection has a vast portfolio of photos going as far back as the early 20th Century. These photos include many places like Trade, FF, Sherbet, Heaven, The Crews Bar, Madame Jojos, Bang @ Busbys, The L.A, Manbar/70 Carring X Road, The Stag Bar and many many more.
There are collections of some of our favourite drag queens, like Lily Savage, Regina Fong, Millie Mopp, Steffan, Titti La Camp and once again, many many more.
If history is your thing, then buckle up and enjoy the memories from photos and news archive clippings like the 1987 Stop The Clause/Clause 28 rally at Kensington Gardens, The Brixton Fairies & South London Gay Community Centre 1970s, Gay Liberation Front - London in the 60s & 70s, Outrage! and copies of the 1958 Wolfenden report.
I've even created a portfolio of those beautiful friends and family we have lost along our journey, so we never forget their faces.
There is such a great collection of our UK LGBT history, our spirit and our souls hard work to prove that we are equal, and deserve respect for whom we are.
My call to you for help!
After 13 years of building up this archive, Facebook has repeatedly threatened closure of the page, for what they say are posts and photos that go against their (high and mighty) policies. They did once block the page and my personal profile, which led to losing a ton of info. Unfortunately I was never able to get my personal profile back (losing valued photos of friends that are no longer here), but thanks to one of Lost Gay Londons followers, someone on the inside, we did get Lost Gay London republished. But this was a once off! The next time they do it, may be the last.
Recently Facebook hit Lost Gay London with an intention to unpublish the page, if any more posts and photos were against their policies. I stand defiant that we have the right to be who we are and not subject to the scrutiny of third party bullies, so have started creating a website 'www.LostGayLondon.com', not yet published.
In a previous gofundme, I was able to raise funds to buy the domain and own it for at least 5 years.
Now I'm asking for your help to pick up where I left off two years ago and get this dream a reality.
There are many costs involved in setting up and running a website, as I have found out, more than I expected.
If you're interested in helping Lost Gay London become an independent page, free of Facebook and third party bullies, please donate to this cause. Any amount is a step forward in helping this cause.
If anyone is also interested in volunteering and helping design and structure the site (wix) I would love to hear from you. I've never created an independent page before and I'm honestly a little lost. LOL
Much love and appreciation to you all, Gage
NB: the fund goal is in AUD $ and not UK £ as I now live back in Australia and the funds have to be in the currency of the destination account. Thanks
