Lorice R. Williams was one of the first Deaf nurse aides, retiring after 41 years from Columbus Colony Elderly Care, a Deaf nursing home where everyone had to know American Sign Language, previously known as Ohio Home for Aged and Infirm. She worked the 11 PM to 7 AM shift. Her dedication and respect for the Deaf residents reflected her passion for her job. Lorice also worked at Isabelle Ridgeway for 17 years with an all-hearing staff. She was a devoted wife to her now-deceased husband and a mother of six, with two children also deceased.
Lorice had a generous heart, always opening her home to family and friends in need of a place to rest or feel safe. She would often cook pies, cakes, or meals for her guests, never asking for a single dollar in return. She and her late husband had hearts of pure gold. After her husband's passing, Lorice developed early-onset dementia and is now cared for 24/7 by her loving daughter, Reva McHardy, her family, and a nurse aide.
