Help Lori Heal and Stay Afloat

Update 3/1:

Mom is settled in to in patient rehab for at least a week. She is trying to regain some independence with physical therapy getting her on her feet (well, one foot) and deep breathing to get her lungs back up and running. Lowering our goal to $1000 as we have figured a few things out!

Update 2/27:

Mom has fractured ribs, contusions on her chest wall and lungs, and fractured ankle. She is waiting for an appeal to her insurance to cover inpatient rehab. It will take weeks to get any sort of short term disability from her workplace. My dad is going to need to build or buy a ramp for the house and needs to modify their shower for mom to get in and out of. Hopefully we’ll be getting shower chair and rolling knee scooter though insurance. Luckily we got a van as a rental for the next month! So that will be helpful also.

Hey all, I’m Lauren. My mom Lori was in an accident last night 2/22 after experiencing a medical emergency behind the wheel, on her drive home from working at the hospital. Due to her medical emergency she lost consciousness before veering off the road, down an embankment and into the woods. Thankfully she did not hit any nearby trees. Most of her airbags deployed but her steering wheel airbag did not, causing her to be thrown against the wheel. The car was totaled.

She was taken by ambulance to our local hospital ED and is now admitted for the foreseeable few days to a week. She has bruising on her lungs requiring her to be on oxygen and has a fractured ankle, which she will be unable to put any weight on for 6 weeks. Her neuro also says she shouldn’t drive for 6 months due to the medical emergency at the wheel.

She is a nurse of almost 20 years and has been working weekends in addition to the week, to make extra income. As well as my step dad, who has been logging 70+ hours a week as a truck driver, while also dealing with his recent heart attack.

With this being said, this is going to significantly set them back financially while my mom is unable to work or much less move herself around for weeks and my dad works even more insane hours, as even her short term disability will take weeks to come in. And then I’m sure medical bills are going to also come in.

I’m hoping to just help them stay afloat if possible. Anything helps. ❤️
