My name is karen, and I’m reaching out to the community to help me create a safe, comfortable home for my 93-year-old mother, Loretta Underwood (Davis). Loretta currently lives in Arizona, but she’ll be moving back moving in with me early this spring. She’s in a wheelchair most of the time and needs a space that allows her to keep her independence, stay close to family, and enjoy her favorite things in life.

I could not bear to see her in a care facility. The room I want to renovate for her is directly out my door, complete with hardwood (faux) planks, recessed lighting, and a bench seat. However, it needs a bathroom with a walk-in shower, a safe connection to my home, and an intercom system so we can communicate, since both of us are hard of hearing.. Loretta wants to keep her own space, filled with the belongings she’s collected over the years, and it’s important to her to feel independent while being surrounded by family. I have committed myself to getting this job completed the best way I can…if anyone can donate needed building materials such as 2x6 boards for hall way connection to home..cement board for finished out side exterior walls ,oso plywood for outer exterior walls of hallway, any professionals that would like to donate their services would be amazing… !!! And greatly appreciated. I am working on getting a mini ductless split put in her little studio.. she is very excited but scared of such a huge move from her home.

I’ve exhausted every resource I can find—reaching out to organizations like Habitat for Humanity and Aging in Place—but haven’t been able to get any help. The financial burden process have been overwhelming, and I’m doing everything I can to make this happen on my own. When Loretta moves in, I’ll be bringing her home in a moving truck and storing her belongings in my garage, with plans for an estate sale for the items that won’t fit. Having Loretta at home means everything to us. She thrives when she’s with family, enjoys being outside, and values her independence.
