Help Lorena Battle Brain Cancer

Hello everyone!

Let me introduce you to Lorena Sanz, an incredibly creative woman and mother of two beautiful children, Nicole (9-yo) and Lucas (12-yo). Together with her husband, José Sanz, and their adorable dog Simba, Lorena has called Florida her home for over 20 years.

In 2024, Lorena began experiencing increasingly severe headaches and lost consciousness on a couple of occasions. After an MRI, she received a devastating preliminary diagnosis: Glioblastoma Multiforme.

Glioblastoma Multiforme is an aggressive type of brain cancer that originates in the glial cells of the brain, which are responsible for supporting and protecting neurons. This type of tumor grows rapidly and can invade and destroy surrounding brain tissue, making immediate and effective treatment crucial.

This diagnosis was confirmed by her doctor, who referred her for immediate surgery. Within just two days, the surgeon, Dr. Ricardo Komotar, saw her in consultation and proceeded to remove a 2.4'' tumor in an urgent surgery.

But this is not the end; it is just the beginning of her journey. Now, Lorena needs to undergo radiotherapy sessions, which will conclude on December 17, 2024, and she will start chemotherapy in January 2025 for 6 months. This will prevent her from working as she is used to.

Lorena and her family have a long and challenging journey ahead of them, and our support and kindness are greatly needed and appreciated during this difficult time.

Permítanme presentarles a Lorena Sanz, una mujer increíblemente creativa y madre de dos hermosos niños, Nicole (9 años) y Lucas (12 años). Junto a su esposo, José Sanz, y su adorable perrito Simba, Lorena ha llamado a Florida su hogar por más de 20 años.

Este 2024, Lorena comenzó a experimentar dolores de cabeza cada vez más severos y perdió el conocimiento en un par de ocasiones. Después de una tomografía, recibió un diagnóstico preliminar devastador: Glioblastoma Multiforme.

El Glioblastoma Multiforme es un tipo agresivo de cáncer cerebral que se origina en las células gliales del cerebro, que son responsables de apoyar y proteger las neuronas. Este tipo de tumor crece rápidamente y puede invadir y destruir el tejido cerebral circundante, lo que hace crucial un tratamiento inmediato y efectivo.

Esta noticia fue confirmada por su médico, quien la remitió para una cirugía inmediata. En tan solo dos días, el cirujano, Dr. Ricardo Komotar, la vio en consulta y procedió a extraer un tumor de 6.1 cms en una cirugía urgente.

Pero este no es el final; es solo el comienzo de su viaje. Ahora, Lorena necesita someterse a sesiones de radioterapia, que concluirán el 17 de diciembre de 2024, y comenzará la quimioterapia en enero de 2025 por 6 meses. Esto le impedirá trabajar como lo hacía anteriormente.

Lorena y su familia tienen un largo y difícil camino por delante, y nuestro apoyo y amabilidad son muy necesarios y apreciados durante este tiempo desafiante.
