Our Lone Star Rotary e-Club is raising money to buy underwear for nearby children living in poverty— many who don't own a pair at all! We are shocked by this fact, and we want to help.
Not wearing underwear, or wearing the same pair day after day, can severely affect a student's overall academic performance by creating distractions such as health problems (rashes, infections) and making the student feel isolated, ridiculed, and unworthy.
Our fundraiser will benefit approximately 720 youth, K–12. Of these, about 200 students at Alcott Elementary in Houston will receive a packet containing a week’s supply of new underwear, distributed directly by our club's members. Alcott Elementary has one of the highest poverty levels in the state! We will deliver an additional 520 packets to other nearby areas of need, including low-income school districts that we have identified, school nurse offices, children’s hospitals, and shelters.
Our own RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) Students will be packaging the undies at their 2026 annual encampment in the piney woods of Southeast Texas.
If you're saddened and surprised to hear that children living near you can't afford underwear, please consider donating. No amount is too large or small.
We thank you for your help.
