Help Local Woman Seeking Asylum from Dangerous Family

There is so much happening in our world right now that sometimes I feel unsure how or where to help most effectively. Then a very concrete and personal way to help one family fell right into my lap. A couple months ago I met a warm and lovely woman at the post office and we became dear friends right away. Ze escaped Mauritania a little over a year ago. At age 14 (yes, just 14!) her family married her off to an older man as his fourth wife. He was abusive and sent her to the hospital several times. She had his baby at 15. A few years later Ze secretly fell in love with a good man and was able to escape to America. Ze, her 11 year old, her new husband, and her one year old baby are here in Richmond seeking asylum. Her family back home has made it known that if she returns they will perform an "honor killing" on her, due to the disgrace she brought to her family. I have spent the last couple of months trying to find a lawyer that will take this case pro bono. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts, all of the non-profits I spoke with, while sympathetic to her case, do not have the funds to take this case right now. I have found a lovely Egyptian-American immigration lawyer who is willing to work with her, her husband, and her boys for $9,000. This lawyer came highly recommended by a local Egyptian pastor, so I feel good about this choice (I've talked to a lot of immigration lawyers lately). I have paid the initial deposit, but am hoping that some of you will feel compassion for this family's situation and will donate what you can to her legal fees. She's just a 26 year old mother trying to give her boys a chance at a happy and successful life. I have never asked for help onlinelike this before, so it feels a little vulnerable and strange.
