Help Liz from Ginko recover from a break-in

*Thank you so much to everyone who contributed and showed up for Liz. We are all incredibly grateful to live and work in such a supportive community. Liz is overwhelmed with gratitude for the support she has received.*

Early yesterday morning, someone broke into the Ginko Gallery through the front window (again..), damaged about $700 worth of handcrafted merchandise, and stole the cash from the register.

Those who know Liz know that she has given a tremendous amount of her time and energy to our Oberlin community. She has worked on numerous non-profit boards and has volunteered countless hours helping members of the community as a neighbor and business owner and through her visionary work with the Oberlin Community Land Trust. She dedicates a large section of the Ginko Gallery to house kittens for Community Action to Save Strays (CATSS), the local stray cat rescue.

To give you an idea of the damages this break-in has caused: Liz has insurance, but there is a $1000 deductible. And although the repairs, the value of cash stolen, and the value of the destroyed merchandise will certainly exceed that, businesses don’t often file claims that aren’t significantly higher than their deductible. Why? It might subject them to potentially increased insurance premiums, which could offset the benefit of filing a claim in the first place.

If we, as a community, can show our love and support by paying her $1000 deductible, that would be great.

If we could give a little extra so she might not need to file a claim, it would be even better! And, if Liz has a little left over to help upgrade her security system, that would be amazing!
