From 1 day old Kruz had trouble feeding and the worry his parents had was undeniable, not putting on weight, always crying in pain, just the unknown of how to help him. He was taken to the ER in South Hedland were he started to get multiple tests and scans to help find the problem.
The scans showed he had a mass in his abdominal area and within the coming weeks they learned it was growing in size but being told it was nothing to worry about. Kiara and Matt persisted with the Drs that it wasnt nothing and he needed further testing, after numerous weeks Kruz was flown down to Perth were he met with Drs at Perth Childrens Hospital for a biopsy and MRI scans and to the most shocking heartbreaking news Matt and Kiara were told their little boy had Cancer.
Kruz has Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (ERMS) it is a rare histological form of cancer of connective tissue wherein the mesenchymally-derived malignant cells resemble the primitive developing skeletal muscle of the embryo. It is the most common soft tissue sarcoma occurring in children.
Treatment; Kruz went for a huge 7hr surgery yesterday to remove the mass which was a success, once he has recovered he will go though 22 weeks of chemotherapy.
Kruz and his parents have to stay in Perth while he has his chemo, they have medical bills, car hire, accommodation and they need to still pay for rent and utilities at their home in south hedland for when they return.
