- Hello, my name is Lisa Murrelle, and I live in upstate NY. I am starting this GoFundMe because I am in desperate need of help. My mother, Linda, lives alone in Florida. She has been alone since my stepfather, Roger, passed away last year. It has been very difficult for her to cope this past year. She is 85 now, and last month she fell and broke her elbow. Surgery was not an option because she is allergic to anesthesia, so they put her in a cast and sent her to a nursing home/rehabilitation center. We know what happens in those facilities, and of course, it did... they neglected and abused her. She took herself out of there and is home, but she can't take care of herself. A friend was staying with her until I can get to Florida but has since had medical issues from an automobile accident in my mother's vehicle. Now my mother doesn't have a car; it was totaled. I am going to take care of my mother, but it is winter here in NY, and before I can leave, I have to winterize my home and try to get friends to take care of my home and my 2 horses and 6 cats! I think I have the animals taken care of, but winterizing is going to cost about $800, and then I will need extra help with a flight to get there. I have never been one to ask for help... this is actually very difficult for me to do... but I'm not too proud to admit I need help, and so does my mother. She is a fall risk and will not be able to live alone anymore. I plan on taking care of her for the rest of our lives. I will go to Florida and get her healthy enough so that we can figure out what the future is for us. But my mom is worth everything I can do for her. She has always taken care of others, and now it is my time to pay it forward for her. Anything you can donate will be a blessing for us, and I know this is the wrong time of year to ask, but I live on a fixed income as I had to retire this past year.
