Help Lions Community Centre Stay Open

For 70 years, the Lions Club of Cobourg has provided support for individuals, organizations, and community projects. From parades to food drives, NHH to Ed’s House, the club has always stepped up when called upon for help. But now, the club is seeking the community’s support to help maintain the Cobourg Lions Community Centre.
Efforts by the Lions Club and a not-for-profit rental model have allowed the “Lions Hall” to operate successfully since its construction in 1976. Booked by large groups for weddings, banquets, dances, parties, etc., most people in the community have attended an event at this versatile venue.
But, the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic stopped all large event bookings and has been catastrophic to the financial stability of the Centre.
“Obviously, without these bookings the hall is losing money,” says Hall Committee Chair, Ron Wiebe.
“Under normal circumstances, the Lions Community Centre is extremely valuable to the community – it hosts meetings, fundraisers for families in need, concerts to support various charities, dinners, galas, and countless other events, even for other service clubs,” says Wiebe. “But, these circumstances aren’t normal and without any rentals, we need to ask for help.”
“It wouldn’t be right for us to lose the hall because of the pandemic.” – Ron Wiebe
