Hello!
We’re Linsey and Andrew, and we’re looking to open a secondhand goods shop in the heart of Jarrow at the Viking Centre. Our dream is simple: provide affordable bargains, create a friendly place for locals to pop in, and continue the work we’ve loved doing for years.
A little backstory: for three years, we volunteered and ran a similar shop in Jarrow that focused on raising funds for animal rescue. During that time, we built wonderful relationships with the amazing community — people would stop by not just for bargains, but for a good old chin wag. We worked hard to keep prices low and make sure everyone could enjoy affordable shopping.
Unfortunately, our previous employer wasn’t honest with us or the money, and after a difficult time, we were pushed out. This didn’t break our spirit — it only strengthened our resolve to reopen, do things our way, and provide the Jarrow community with a place that’s fair, welcoming, and affordable.
After leaving, my mam spent time caring for her partner, who was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Now, we’re both ready and eager to get back to what we love — running a shop that feels like part of the community.
We’re asking for your support to help us cover initial costs, including the upfront shop deposit, stock, and three months’ rent. Our target is £4,000, which will give us the foundation to open the doors and welcome everyone back.
Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to reopening and reconnecting with the people of Jarrow. Your support isn’t just funding a shop — it’s helping a small local dream come true, keeping affordable secondhand shopping alive, and giving back to the community that supported us for years.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story — and we can’t wait to welcome you through the door of our new shop!
