Help Lilly fight her battle with Stage 4 Cancer
Donation protected
First, I wanna ask for prayers for my babygirl... Her name is Lilianna Wolford (Lilly). She just turned 8 years old on December 17th and was just recently diagnosed with STAGE 4 CANCER.
It all started one morning (September 17-19 of 2024) when I woke her up for school. She was having some pain in her side. I took her to urgent care at Holzer, and they told me my child had "kidney stones" and said they weren't equipped to handle it and wanted us to go to the Holzer Emergency Room instead. So we did. Holzer ER did a CT scan and told us she didn't have "kidney stones" but instead had an "abscess" on her kidney. We were then admitted to Children's that same night. By 7:30 am the next morning, we were still in the ER at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Two doctors came in and told me (Mom) and Lilly's father that they were pretty certain our child had "cancer" and on top of it, she had an infection in her body and was running a fever. So we were admitted to the "Infectious Disease" floor at "Children's." As the days went on, the doctors were back and forth. One day they told me it was a "cyst," then the next day it was an "abscess." Then they told me they'd never seen anything like it before and wanted us to see a specialist who then told me AGAIN she had never seen anything like what my daughter has and that she thinks it may be a "tumor." She wanted to reach out to other colleagues across the U.S. to get further info on what it could be. There was SO much back and forth. The worrying and not knowing for sure what my child has was beyond stressful and VERY frustrating! They kept repeating MRIs, and the "tumor" kept growing larger and larger. So they then FINALLY decided they wanted to do surgery and remove her "left kidney." Again, nobody has actually CONFIRMED what it is FOR SURE. Lilly went in for surgery on January 10th to do what's called a "nephrectomy" (removal of the left kidney), and they were going to send it off to pathology. After Lilly's surgery, the surgeon (Jennifer Aldrink) came out and let us know that "surgery went well and Lilly did good during surgery. There were NO complications, and she was CERTAIN she got all of the tumor out with NO issues." She said the tumor looked like it MAYBE could have been hemorrhaging a little down INSIDE of it, so she put ONE STITCH in it before removing it so that it didn't leak out or anything. Fast forward to January 20th, I look on Lilly's MyChart for Children's to see the pathology report finally... only to find out and read in it that there WAS spillage of the tumor inside my baby during surgery!!!!! So the morning of January 21st, the pathologist called me from Children's to let me know the results that my child did in fact have CANCER and that she needed to be at Children's on January 23rd for a "port placement." Directly after, she was admitted overnight because I would be seeing several doctors, and it would be a lot to take in (the doctors said). So the oncologist came in (Dr. Ranalli) and said he needed to speak with me and that we needed to step out to the hallway. He took me to a conference room along with a few other doctors and sat me down to inform me my child has STAGE 4 CANCER and that it's spread from her kidney to her lymph nodes and BOTH of her lungs now. He said we needed to discuss treatment plans. Lilly now has to do chemo and radiation for around 24 weeks. (Again, let me remind you the pathology report literally says in it that the pathologist spoke with the surgeon and there WAS spillage OUTSIDE of the kidney DUE TO THE SURGERY!!) Not one doctor has mentioned this still!!! I mentioned it to the oncologist when he told me the extent of it, and I asked him if it's stage 4 now due to the spillage, and he said, "I can't really say. Right now, we need to focus on it's there, it's bad, and we want her to get better." This surgeon caused the tumor to spill out inside my baby!!!!! My child knows she's sick but doesn't FULLY know what she's getting ready to go through. I feel SO helpless being her mommy and not being able to take away her pain or help her get better! It's an indescribable feeling that I pray no mother or child EVER has to go through!! I have 2 other children as well who are 5 (boy) and 6 years (girl) old.
I'm a single mother to 3. I sat her siblings down and explained to them what's going on. My son doesn't really understand, but her sister is taking it very hard. She said she was going to shave her hair as well so her sister didn't feel alone. I've been employed throughout all of this; however, now I'm unable to work. I feel helpless, and it kills my pride inside to do this, but I'm reaching out to ANYONE that is reading this to ask for help with expenses for gas to get back and forth for all the appointments we will have, food during our hospital visits/stays, and bills, etc., as I'm unable to work during this time. I wasn't sure on the amount to put, so I just put 2,000. However, ANYTHING will help seriously, even if it's just a share!!!!! Also, if you would like to follow Lilly's journey, my name is Lindsay Wolford. You can look me up on Facebook. I'll keep everyone updated on there! Keep Lilly in your prayers every day as she fights her battle.
