Light the Future Foundation is a registered nonprofit, community-based organization in Uganda focused on educating children and fighting childhood hunger and malnutrition. Founded by Ssenyondo Patrick in the Ugandan village of Namayumba, Light the Future Foundation seeks to respond to both the immediate and long-term needs of children in this area, many of whom have been orphaned by war and disease.
Immediate goals include covering the costs of school tuition and healthcare for some of the neediest children in the community. The foundation has acquired five acres of land and is raising crops through small-scale sustainable agriculture to offset the cost of tuition and nutrition.
Uganda is a nation in which 30% of children suffer from malnutrition, 5% die from preventable diseases before their 5th birthday, and 12% of girls become mothers while still teenagers themselves. In Namayumba, 85% of adults cannot read or write. However, Uganda is also a nation in which young visionaries like Ssenyondo Patrick are striving to make a difference and have a positive impact on the health and well-being of the children of Uganda. We hope you'll join us in this mission.
Current board members of Light the Future Foundation are Mr. Ssenyondo Patrick, founder and executive director, as well as Mr. Kyagera Mwesiga, Dr. Amy House, and Mr. Dave Bruns. Dave, Ms. Karen Koehler-Cesa and Mr. Terry Bradwell have teamed up to form a US-based support organization, Ignite the Future Inc., to help the foundation achieve its goals.
