Help Líam Represent Puerto Rico in Chess!

Dear family and friends,

♟️ Líam Joaquín has been invited to join the team representing Puerto Rico at the prestigious World Schools Team Chess Tournament 2025 in Washington, D.C., this coming August. Even more exciting: his school, Academia Interamericana Metro (AIM), will be the only school from the island participating.

This is a truly invaluable opportunity for him. Chess has become a powerful space for learning, discipline, and the joy of community. Over the past year, I’ve dedicated myself to creating and leading the AIM Chess Club, which has grown into something very special. We’ve participated in several tournaments, including one where we earned 1st place as a team (as well as other championships) , and organized online events and exhibitions. I’ll continue developing the club this coming year, along with having completed a certification in school-based chess education.

While some tournament costs are covered by the organizers, we still need to cover other essential expenses — for Líam and for me as his accompanying adult. Uniforms, lodging, meals, field trips, special events, local transportation, and more are still our responsibility.

Our goal is to raise $4,800 to make this journey possible.

We know times are tough, but every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to making this dream a reality.

♟️ Querida familia y amistades cercanas,

Líam Joaquín ha sido invitado a formar parte del equipo que representará a Puerto Rico en el prestigioso FIDE World Schools Team Chess Tournament 2025, en Washington, D.C., este próximo mes de agosto. Lo más emocionante es que su escuela, la Academia Interamericana Metro (AIM), será la única escuela de la isla participando.

Este viaje representa una experiencia invaluable para él. El ajedrez ha sido un espacio de crecimiento personal, disciplina, y comunidad. En el último año, con mucho esfuerzo y amor, fundé el AIM Chess Club, que ha crecido con fuerza. Hemos participado en torneos escolares e individuales, organizado exhibiciones simultáneas, torneos virtuales, y hasta ganamos primer lugar grupal en nuestro primer torneo, entre otros primeros lugares. Este nuevo año continuaré desarrollando el club y me certifiqué en ajedrez escolar para seguir integrándolo al currículo.

Aunque algunos gastos del torneo están cubiertos por los organizadores, aún necesitamos cubrir otros aspectos esenciales, tanto para Líam como para mí, como su acompañante. Uniformes, hospedaje, comidas, excursiones, eventos especiales, transporte y otros detalles siguen siendo nuestra responsabilidad.

Nuestra meta es recaudar $4,800 para poder hacer este viaje posible.

Sabemos que los tiempos no están fáciles, pero cada aportación, por más pequeña que sea, nos acerca a cumplir este sueño.
