Hi everyone, my name is Lexxie. I’m an ASMR content creator who is best known for my storytimes and bedtime readings. I’ve always tried to be open and transparent with my community about my life and the challenges I face, and unfortunately, one of the most difficult situations I’ve had to share recently involves my current housing situation.
When my roommates and I first moved into our rental home, problems began almost immediately. On the second day after moving in, our heater stopped working and remained broken for nearly three weeks. Unfortunately, that was only the beginning of a long list of unresolved issues in the house.
Since then, we have dealt with multiple serious maintenance and safety concerns, including black mold on our bathroom ceiling, a rotting subfloor in the same bathroom, and holes in the roof that cause our ceilings to leak whenever it rains. Our home is also poorly insulated—both the front and back doors do not properly fit their frames, forcing us to stuff blankets and rags into the gaps just to keep out the cold air.
On top of that, we’ve experienced extremely high electricity bills, which multiple people have suggested could be due to faulty wiring or other electrical issues within the house.
For the past four months, we have been in constant communication with our landlord about these problems. While several maintenance workers have visited the house, the issues have never been fully resolved. Instead, we’ve been left living in an environment that has caused stress, illness, and ongoing uncertainty.
In February, our landlord informed us that he planned to sell the house. When he believed he had found a buyer, he told us we would need to move out as soon as possible because the buyer wanted to occupy the property. Rather than offering a proper written cash-for-keys agreement, he mentioned over the phone that he “might return our March rent” if we moved out quickly enough.
This news created immediate panic for my roommates and me. We had already been covering extra expenses caused by the home’s issues while trying to manage the stress and health concerns that came with living there.
When the sale of the home eventually fell through, our landlord told us we could stay “for now” and that we should continue paying rent as usual. Because of the instability and the unresolved issues, we reached out to legal services for advice. With their guidance, we attempted to negotiate a formal cash-for-keys agreement so we could move out safely and fairly.
Our landlord refused the agreement but insisted that we vacate the property by April 5. Although we did not agree to that date, our legal advisors have recommended that we prepare to leave by then given the circumstances.
Throughout this process, we have received multiple third-party statements from maintenance workers, legal professionals, and code enforcement officials confirming that many of the issues in the house should have been properly addressed. Because of this, my roommates and I are preparing to move out and pursue legal action against our landlord.
I’m starting this GoFundMe to help cover legal expenses, moving costs, and securing safe housing after leaving this situation. Beyond the issues inside the home, the surrounding neighborhood has also felt unsafe at times, with multiple incidents involving shootings and violent altercations nearby.
This has been an incredibly stressful and overwhelming experience, but I’m hopeful that with the support of my community, I’ll be able to move forward and get into a safer, healthier living situation.
If you’d like to learn more about my experience, I’ve shared additional details on my TikTok at @Lexxiecore.
Any support—whether it’s donating or simply sharing this campaign—means more than I can express. I’m deeply grateful for anyone who takes the time to read my story and help during such a difficult time.
Thank you so much.
