My son, Levi, is a budding music producer and DJ. Last week he was busy setting up to do a gig at a bar and restaurant near Liverpool Street in London, carrying his sound system, lights, decks, etc from his car into the venue, when some unkind soul took the opportunity to walk off with his backpack.
By unfortunate chance on this particular day, he had everything that matters to him in the world in that bag - both business and personal - most of it not backed up elsewhere:
- His laptop and external hard-drive, containing 1,000s of tracks that had taken weeks of his time to download and organise for DJ use; many 100s of hours of painstaking creative effort on unpublished tracks he was composing; all his music-making software; business ideas and projects he was working on; his marketing and job-hunting resources; years of personal photos and files, etc
- His portable camcorder, with all his professional and personal videos stored on it
- His treasured journal, a beautifully decorative book that he'd bought on a trip to Jordan and was using to write poetry and other personal thoughts
Total replacement value of the physical items is only around £1,000. But most of what he lost is priceless - the time and dedication he invested, his creations, memories and professional work. He feels like he's had his whole life taken from him, and he's absolutely devastated.
Funds raised will be put towards replacing the items he lost, with any excess invested in upgrades or additional kit that would help him to develop his music production and DJ skills.
All contributions, small or large, would be gratefully received. Let's help Levi start to get back on his feet again! And, who knows, maybe even restore some of his lost faith in humanity too.
