On October 28, 2025, Hurricane Melissa — a Category 5 cyclone — devastated Jamaica, becoming the strongest storm ever to make landfall on the island. It left roughly $7 billion in damages, along with 48 deaths, 109 injuries, and 15 people missing in Jamaica alone.

I am so grateful to share that my dad, Lenny, and my stepmother, Shirley, made it through the storm safely. Unfortunately, my dad’s home, farm, and property suffered extensive damage. The biggest issues are his roof, his crops, and, of course, his bees. During the storm, large branches and debris damaged the roof, causing multiple leaks, sending water pouring down the walls of his home. It is in urgent need of repair.

His crops were completely destroyed, along with some of his stored seeds. And the bees…ugh… anyone who knows my dad knows about his lifelong love for them. Not only are they a source of income through their honey, but they’re also something my dad deeply cares about and pours his heart into. Melissa destroyed 60 of his 100 hives. The hurricane smashed many of the boxes and frames, washing away the bees’ winter honey stores (which sustain them through this part of the year) and wiped out many colonies. His crops are another major source of income, and without them, or any hope of a tourism boom, his finances are at a complete standstill.

I’ve created this in an attempt to crowdfund financial relief to help repair my dad’s home. My hope is to raise enough by December, when I travel to Jamaica for Christmas, to assist him in making the necessary repairs and replenishing some of the supplies he needs to start new crops and rebuild his hives.
