I’m Le’Kenya, and I’m creating this fundraiser for myself and my children after we were targeted in a rental scam while trying to secure a home in Douglasville, Georgia. In July, I found a house listed as rent by owner and truly believed it was legitimate. The person claiming to be the owner showed me the home, provided a lease, and told me the rent and security deposit were $1,790 each. Trusting that everything was real, I sent money toward the home. On August 21, after sending another payment and expecting to meet a locksmith to get the keys, I waited for nearly two hours while my calls and messages went unanswered. I later learned from a neighbor that the home was not privately owned as I had been told. I filed a police report, and the transactions are under investigation, but in the meantime, my children and I have been left in a heartbreaking situation with very limited funds and nowhere stable to land.
Right now, these donations will help me get my children and me out of a hotel and into stable housing as quickly as possible. They will also help cover urgent needs like storage, moving expenses, food, transportation, and basic household items while I work to recover financially from this loss. How you can help:
