On June 16th, the Manseau family was overjoyed to announce the birth of Thomas Florean Manseau to their daughter, Lauren. Thomas’s original due date was July 16th, but Thomas decided to come a little early and was immediately loved beyond measure.

Unfortunately, Thomas has had several setbacks and hurdles to overcome since birth. He had to be transferred to MUSC where he underwent an MRI, a sleep study, was evaluated by a jaw specialist, and had to spend more time on a CPAP machine to try and help elevate his oxygen levels. On July 24, he underwent surgery where a scope was used to determine he has a collapsible soft pallet. They also discovered that he has melasia in one of his lungs, which will be treated with steroids in a nebulizer. For a short period, he was taken off the CPAP machine, but on his own he was unable to maintain a healthy oxygen level. The decision was made to put him back on the machine. There will be another meeting with his care team and pulmonologist to evaluate what steps need to be taken next.

It has been extremely difficult and heart wrenching for the whole family, but especially Lauren. As a first-time mother, Lauren has not been given the chance to bring her baby home and receive family and friends as she had hoped. Every day, all day, Lauren has gone to the hospital so she can hold Thomas and spend time with him. The stress has been unimaginable, but day after day, Lauren has been advocating for her son and praying for a miracle. No mother plans for what Lauren has been enduring or how to deal with watching their newborn struggle. She has not even allowed herself a moment to contemplate what she needs or how she has been feeling.

With Lauren being out of work and not knowing when or if she can return.
Everyone has been so kind asking how can they help and what they can do? Right now, we are hoping you would consider donating to Lauren’s Go Fund Me. It’s difficult to ask for help, especially financially, but this would be a way we could all help alleviate some stress for Lauren. No matter the amount you give, it will all go towards helping Lauren spend time holding and giving Thomas as much love as possible.

Thank you so much for your consideration in helping Lauren be with her son, Thomas.
