**Every Child Deserves a Place to Belong**
Imagine being a bright, capable young person who wants to learn, but each school day feels overwhelming.
For some children, anxiety makes it difficult to walk through the school gate. For others, sensory challenges, trauma, social pressures, or repeated experiences of failure have led them to disengage from education altogether. Many families find themselves searching for a school where their child feels safe, understood, and able to succeed.
Southern Skies Montessori is being created for these young people.
We are establishing a fee-free Montessori Special Assistance School on Queensland's Sunshine Coast for students aged 9–15 who have become disengaged from mainstream education due to anxiety, school refusal, neurodivergence, trauma, or other challenges.
Our mission is simple: to create a place where young people can reconnect with learning, rebuild confidence, and rediscover hope.
**Why We Are Doing This**
My colleague Naomi and I have dedicated our lives to education. We have seen firsthand that many young people struggle not because they lack ability, but because the educational environment is not meeting their needs.
We believe education should not be one-size-fits-all.
Every child deserves to feel safe. Every child deserves to belong. Every child deserves the opportunity to experience success.
Southern Skies Montessori has been founded to provide that opportunity.
**What Makes Southern Skies Montessori Different?**
Our school will combine:
* Montessori education
* Trauma-informed practice
* Small learning communities
* Individualised support
* Strong relationships and mentoring
* Opportunities for meaningful work and real-world learning
* A focus on wellbeing, belonging, and human development
Rather than asking young people to fit the system, we aim to create a learning environment that responds to who they are and what they need.
**How Your Support Will Help**
Although Southern Skies Montessori is a registered Australian not-for-profit organisation, significant establishment costs must be met before we can open our doors.
Funds raised through this campaign will help us:
* Secure and prepare a suitable campus
* Purchase Montessori learning materials
* Create welcoming indoor and outdoor learning environments
* Provide technology and educational resources
* Support the establishment of programs for our first students
* Build a school designed around belonging, wellbeing, and success
**A Vision Becoming Reality**
Southern Skies Montessori is already well underway.
We have established our not-for-profit organisation, formed a Board of Directors, developed governance policies, launched our website, and begun working with families, community members, and supporters who share our vision.
