Help Launch Mel’s Program for Adults with Disabilities

My name is Melanie Hackman, and I’ve dedicated 20 years to supporting individuals with special needs as an instructional aide, a special education teacher, and an advocate. It has long been my dream to create a community-based day program that offers meaningful support and enriching opportunities for adults with special needs.

My passion is working with individuals with disabilities to transition into adulthood and enjoy social interactions with their peers and community.

For the past eight months, I’ve been actively planning the launch of this program, and I couldn’t be more excited. There is a critical shortage of programs and resources in our area, including Pasadena and Altadena, and I am committed to helping fill that gap. Many families struggle to find the support their loved ones need to continue thriving in a social environment after aging out of the school system.

Funds raised will go toward completing the legal requirements to establish the program and purchasing a van to transport a group of 8–10 participants, with plans to expand in the future. I already have the support and commitment of over 10 families ready to take the first steps in this journey with me. With many more waiting for a spot.
