Help Build NYC’s First Clothing Exhange/Commons and Creative Space!
goodclothescommunity.org
What’s the Plan?
We're building a community-driven space where people can exchange clothing, learn repair skills, volunteer to help other member’s learn repair & useful skills for garment care, and build community while keeping clothes in use longer.
Today, we're raising funds to establish Good Clothes Community as a NYC-based nonprofit and build the foundation needed to launch our first pilot Good Clothes Community Hub in Autumn 2027.
Your support will help us build the legal, operational, and technology infrastructure that will make this vision possible.
We're not asking a few people to give a lot. We're asking many people who believe in this idea to give whatever they can.
If our vision resonates with you, would you consider making a small donation? Even $10 helps move this project one step closer to reality.
Together, we can build a new fashion system that proves clothing can be shared, repaired, and valued rather than wasted.
With gratitude,
Benjamin Mach

What Inspired This Project?
A few years ago, I commenced my PhD at The University of Technology Sydney (UTS), researching how communities might share, repair, and reuse clothing.
What I discovered wasn't only about clothes.
It was about people.
People wanted affordable access to clothing. They wanted to learn practical skills, meet like-minded folks, reduce waste, and be part of something bigger than themselves.
During 2025 and 2026, I conducted 6 community workshops in New York City to test the concept of a community-driven circular economy focused on sharing the clothing we already own.
The community that formed around this idea shared skills and techniques we can all use to extend the lifespan of our garments, like mending and upcycling.
Each workshop was an extraordinary experience, and conversations with workshop participants inspired the Good Clothes Community nonprofit.
