We are Corey Portugal and Andrew Campos, and we’re on a mission to revitalize Boulder’s community spirit through Quixotic—a new hospitality concept designed to create a “third space” for Boulder. But to kickstart this journey, we need your help to launch our podcast, “Beyond the Bubble.”
Before diving into the details, we invite you to watch our pitch deck video below. It provides a compelling overview of our vision and the journey that led us here.
Our Story
Corey’s Journey
As a Marine Corps veteran turned entrepreneur, my journey has been defined by a relentless pursuit of innovation and community impact. For the past two years, I've been analyzing Boulder's hospitality scene, uncovering a startling $77.7M market gap. This research revealed a significant disconnect between Boulder's young, dynamic population and its social infrastructure.
The numbers tell a compelling story: Boulder ranks #12 nationally for millennial migration, with a median age of 27.2 years and the highest share of remote workers in the U.S. at 32%. Yet, traditional venues are struggling, with Pearl Street Mall revenue down 5.8% year-over-year and 42% of residents reporting zero participation in local events.
These insights led to the conception of Quixotic - an innovative solution designed to bridge this gap and transform Boulder's social landscape. To validate our market fit and build community support, we're launching "Beyond The Bubble" - a podcast that gives voice to Boulder's unheard community, set to debut on January 1st.
Quixotic isn't just another business venture; it's a movement focused on revitalizing Boulder's social scene and creating spaces that truly resonate with our community's needs. As we gear up for Quixotic's launch in 2025, we're proving that sometimes, the ideas deemed "crazy" by traditional gatekeepers are exactly what a market needs.
Andrew’s Journey
I was on my way to New York City, driving across the country when I decided to stop in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado for the winter. Little did I know, Corey had been working on a project that I soon would find identity in. He reached out and began telling me about his vision and plan for this exciting new project and I quickly found interest. Eventually after spending a whole season in the town of Vail, making new friends and seeing the community and beauty that lies within Colorado I decided to head down to the front range and take a closer look at Corey’s project. I finally found myself in Boulder and understood the vision Corey had, creating a place for people to relax, socialize, dance, and breathe. A place where you can go to find culture, a place that isn’t just overrun with the chaotic college scene and not a sit down fine dining restaurant, but a place where you can truly express yourself, a home away from home. I found myself looking at an opportunity that encapsulates what I love doing, bringing people together to make lasting memories with good food, good drinks, better music, and infectious laughter. Any place is just a place but it’s the people who make the experience worth being there. The people you engage with are the ones who cultivate a community. And that’s what Quixotic is about and that’s why I decided to take part in this journey in Boulder with Corey.
Our Vision: Quixotic
In 2023, we united around a shared vision to create a movement that challenges the status quo, amplifies unheard voices, and ignites purposeful change in Boulder. Quixotic aims to redefine the intersection of business and social impact by reimagining the role of hospitality in fostering community, catalyzing innovation, and driving economic growth.
Why We Need Your Help
As we’ve navigated Boulder’s business landscape, a troubling pattern has emerged. While our city is celebrated as a hub for startups and tech, our hospitality scene hasn’t kept pace, failing to adapt to changing work cultures and community needs. Many voices in the community feel that Boulder is losing its soul as talent and resources migrate to Denver.
To address this, we’re launching “Beyond the Bubble”—a daring podcast that explores Boulder’s most pressing issues and opportunities. This podcast will serve as a strategic launchpad for Quixotic, helping us establish a market presence, engage our target audience, and demonstrate traction to potential investors.
