Help Kulahaven Farms Grow!

Update: my worst fears have come to pass and we were recently hit with a devastating fish loss due to a power outage. We were struggling before but now it's become existential. Now on with our original post...

Kulahaven Farms, Hawaii’s first - and only - rainbow trout aquaponic farm, wishes to thank all our loyal customers . It is an honor to serve you. Over the past 6 years, Kulahaven Farms has contributed to solving Hawaii’s food security issue through sustainable aquaculture and agriculture. Our recirculating aquaponic system is a very efficient way to raise both protein and produce in a clean, sustainable manner. Last year, despite a global pandemic, we provided at least a portion of 200,000 meals for the people of Hawaii. We are now planning a major expansion so as to better serve Hawai‘i. We are highly passionate about our mission, here's why:

But from time to time we have had to look to our customers and community for solutions to our own problems and this is one of those times. Between the Covid shutdown, the December storm, a seedbug infestation in our watercress beds and recent issues with fish growth, production has taken a terrible hit.

We are fortunate enough to have broad community support and loyal customers but when product inventory is scarce (until we generate a swift turnaround) it is tough for us to recover.

We could use your help right now to subsidize our production costs and help get us back on track. Your donations will be used to purchase the high-protein feed that we need to accelerate fish growth which is only available in wholesale quantities. We will also be able to experiment with improved methods of fish grading and harvesting, replace failing equipment, upgrade our test equipment and cover the losses incurred during 2 months of crop loss. Any amount would be helpful and appreciated. If you are unable to contribute financially, please help us by sharing this campaign as widely as possible. In the immortal words of Helen Keller, “Alone we can do so little; together, we can do so much”.
