Help my dad recover from a devastating robbery

Donation protected
On August 18, in broad daylight, my dad’s jewelry store ‘Kim Tin Jewelry’ in Oakland was devastated in a violent smash-and-grab. Over eight armed robbers crashed a large truck at full speed through the building, ramming through the entire store and trapping him inside.

The violent nature of this attack went beyond robbery. It was a deliberate act that amounted to an attempted murder.

My dad was knocked down against heavy cabinets and broken glass, and he was held at gunpoint while they took absolutely everything from the store.

I still can’t believe this has happened to my family.

We are incredibly lucky that my dad survived and that he was the only one in the building. But he has been left injured, shaken, and deeply traumatized from this incident, and the store has been destroyed beyond repair.

My dad is a quiet, honest, hardworking man who devoted his life to his craft. Anyone who knows him knows he works tirelessly and never asks anyone for help.

He took over as the sole owner and operator at the start of the year and built this small business from the ground up with his life savings. His work was renowned in the Bay Area for it's amazing craftsmanship. The store had only been open for six months.

Now, he has nothing - no safety net, no livelihood, and no tools to begin rebuilding. The store's insurance will not cover anything from this catastrophic event, so he is left with no way to recover on his own. He doesn’t yet know if he can reopen, though he has no other way to support himself.

This fundraiser will help my dad recover from this traumatic incident. All funds will go to urgent needs like rent, securing the store, and medical care, giving him some stability as we figure out the next steps.

Your contributions will provide him immediate relief and help to support our family as we begin to board up the store and navigate the difficult months ahead.

No donation is too small! Anything will help my dad get back on his feet, and every ounce of support is deeply appreciated.
