Hi, my name is Alana, and Kim is my beloved aunt.

If you have ever visited the Summerland Aquatic Centre, chances are you’ve been greeted by Kim’s bright, warm smile. For years, she has dedicated her life to serving our community with boundless kindness and care. Today, after losing everything in the Bald Range Fire, she needs our community to wrap its arms around her.

As her family, watching her navigate this overwhelming loss has been heartbreaking. Kim is fiercely independent and always the first person to step up for others asking for help does not come naturally to her. She initially hesitated to accept support because she didn't want to take away from so many of her neighbors who have also lost so much. That is why I am stepping in to organize this GoFundMe on her behalf. I know there is a community of people who love Kim, and I want to give everyone a way to lift her up during her darkest hour.

A Lifetime of Memories Lost:

Kim and her late husband, Jim, bought their property in Faulder back in 1994 when their son, Doug, was just two years old. For three decades, that riverfront home was the heart of their family. It was a true labor of love a place where Jim farmed vegetables, spent hours in his garage workshop, and built a peaceful home where Doug grew up.

Kim has already endured immense heartbreak in recent years, having lost Jim to prostate cancer a few years ago. Her home remained her sanctuary, filled with a lifetime of memories of the life they built together.

Tragically, the fire claimed the house and every single thing inside including the irreplaceable ashes of her beloved Jim. The only solace in this tragedy is that Kim and her loyal dog made it out safely.

Starting over completely from scratch at this stage of life is a daunting mountain to climb. While insurance will eventually help down the road, the process takes time, and immediate needs can't wait.
