Help kids in Colombia Learn again!

Hello! My name is Richard, and while it's difficult to take the leap of asking for help, here I am. I could really use your support to reconnect children in Medellin to their teachers after almost a year of limited/no schooling because of COVID.

Over the past 5 years living in Colombia, I have been lucky to be involved in some amazing community projects here in Medellin. During my year teaching English at a public school, I saw how important consistency was in teaching kids. Like many places in the world,  schools have been shut for months and classes were moved online for thousands of kids.

But in Moravia, one of the poorest neighborhoods in Medellin, "virtual classes" were not an option. Without a computer or even smartphone in the house, hundreds of kids have not been able to continue with their schooling since APRIL of 2020 and lots of schools will not reopen until May at the earliest. Most schools will have continued online coursework throughout the 2021 school year, and there are students falling behind.

That's why I need you're help.

I am raising money in partnership with Help Colombia so we can purchase 60 smart-tablets for children in families who don't have computers. Only then can they start to participate in their coursework from their homes.

Each tablet will allow for each child to access coursework, connect with their teachers, and continue their education. They will be able to participate in class, and continue their homework as assigned to them.

We currently have 35 tablets purchased, and  I am asking for help to raise enough money for 15 more.  Each tablet is sourced at 89.99 and will come with a screen protector (about $4 per tablet). We will be delivering tablets starting in mid-march as they arrive to maximize the benefit for each student.

Every $94 you help raise will mean 1 tablet going to a different home.

Whether it's $5 or $50, every single donation helps.

Help Colombia is a non-profit based in Medellin that was established to address emergency situations in the most vulnerable neighborhoods of the city. Over the past 12 months, they have helped over 10,000 people in Medellin in the neighborhoods of Nueva Jerusalem, Moravia, and Botadero in Medellin with food and supplies and gifts for children.
