Hi, my name is Jadzia and I want to
Introduce You to one of Ukrainian heroes: his name is Michał Prokopiw and he is one of Kharkov’s Angels who devotes his life to help others. Michał is a catholic priest who used to have a safe home and work as a teacher in Poland. In one moment he decided to change everything and leave that comfort behind to go to Ukraine to stand with his brothers and sisters against Russian aggression.
Michał works in a hospital and created a dream team of volunteer young people who every day deliver food, water, and other supplies to people in need.
Kharkiv is everyday under gun strike from
Air and land - recently they had 35 bombing alarms during one day. He always said to me that helping is good but it needs to be done in a smart way. This past week when I was visiting Europe we bought a lot of stuff to help people in Kharkiv - things like surgical lamps, first aid supplies, bulletproof wests, personal hygiene items, paper cups and plates, and even portable toilets.
Michał never wants to risk other people lives but he every week he risks his own life for others he drive 14 hours to Młochów in Poland to pick up boxes of supplies to bring to Ukraine.
One my recent trip to Poland, I had the pleasure meet this amazing person and help him with three of his trips. Michal works in a hospital and has a group of volunteers who delivered food water and first aid products to those who can’t move from their places.
I was able to see with my own eyes what is happening to a city only 30 km from the Russian border, making it a great target for Russian aggression. I saw the Second largest city in Ukraine become a ghost city. Starting from almost 1.5 million people only half of million remain and they need constant help. The city continues to fight, refusing to give up even after Russian aggressors took from them water Electricity and food supplies. Their Hospitals are now underground. Their post office no longer exists but even if bomb signal is laud and most of times electricity don’t work you still can hear spirit of Kharkiv and see light of hope in people.
Buildings can be destroyed, money is only paper and can be burned, and valuables can be stolen, but this amazing city — even with location so close to Russia— holds strong because of people who stand together against aggressor. Kharkiv today is no buildings, streets or squares - Kharkiv is made by people of grate hope, faith and bravery - hero of Ukraine.
Despite the heavy attacks, city is still under Ukrainian control, though many of Kharkiv's 1.5 million residents have fled. Those who have stayed describe increasingly grim conditions that are difficult to escape, because of polish passport Michał can freely go back and forth with bus full of needed items. Unfortunately the bus he was using stoped working and because of the many bullet strikes during previous trips it’s impossible to fix.
It’s very hard to buy now bus in Poland because of political and economy situation, but we have found a person who is willing to sell us a large van for 20000 zl (5000$) including new wheels and insurance.
I’m in everyday contact with Michał and I know how important is constantly delivery item what help survival people who stay in city so this is one reason why i create this gofund me.
The Second need is generators. Russians time to time try to beak people by cutting them From electricity. The people working in hospital do surgeries using generators. I was talk with Michał today and they need 10 of them, he didn’t want ask me again for help but other way he is terrified because even if they prepare shelters and try to convince people to go there during strikes they need have electricity. One generator costs 1800zl, which is $4,500 for ten.
I wasn’t ask for help before, last month I was financing with my family 3 trips to Kharkiv like that. My whole family is involved and we try to help how much we can but we can’t do this alone, because there is so much need and no time to spare.
Ukrainians have shown everyone what makes a nation - it’s what you have in heart.
If you have questions feel free to ask me, I will add pictures from my trip and because I talk with Michał only by telegram app I can arrange contact with him in that way.
I will document all purchases and be happy to show receipts for the purchases.
Michał is catholic priest who currently work above any religion and has on his side an orthodox priest and a Jewish Rabbi. Together they have changed the world of many people in Kharkiv and keep this spirit in their hearts. Please help me make his life more safer and easier with transport and access to electricity.
I want personally thank everyone who help, and if You can’t help please send some good thoughts to Kharkiv - because they need know that people remember about them and believe in them.
I just comeback from Europe and I even if I’m in a different time zone, in safe place, i know that I need remember that in time when I close my eyes, somewhere In World people who I meet wake up to the sound of bombs, surrounded by smoke, in constant fear of what can happen in next hours.
They can’t be forgotten because on their back now is future of all Europe.
Thank You
