Help Kevin and Sam LePage

Hi,

I'm Beth Peart, and I am fundraising to assist Sam and Kevin LePage, as they navigate Sam's end-of life journey, by helping with costs relating to incidental medical costs, property maintenance, travel expenses for Sam, Kevin, and Sam's family.

I have been best friend to Sam, since 1979 when we met at the University of Guelph. We were room-mates in Toronto, after I moved there to attend the University of Toronto.

Sam was the matron of honour at my wedding. That year, mere months before the wedding, Sam was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, for which she was successfully treated, though the treatment was brutal. Amazingly, having just been discharged from hospital the day before, she made it to and through the ceremony.

Sam gave me the gift of the Sterling Women's Weekend in 1995, and for years remained a part of the organization, focused on healing relationships of all sorts. Sam would do anything for me, and she remains the only friend in whom I have complete trust. I want to do this for her, and for Kevin.

Now, 32 years later, she is facing a terminal cancer diagnosis. The radiation treatment that saved her life in the early '90s is now killing her. She has opted to not take treatment.

Both Sam and Kevin have been on disability pensions so their income is limited and fixed. They need help with basic things like:

1) Property maintenance - funds to hire someone to cut the lawn and/or buy or repair a new riding mower, and money to top up their housekeeping service.

2) Money to help Sam's sister, Kathy, come to Ontario from the Yukon, to be with her when needed. This would be plane fare and accommodation.

3) Gas money for medical visits outside of the home.

4) Funeral expenses.

5) Help paying down the mortgage to help Kevin remain in the home when Sam is gone.
