Keren Prescott is a mother of three beautiful Black babies (Jaden, Johnny and Jordyn), a social activist, advocate, an organizer.
She is outspoken, smart, and a powerful public speaker.
She is a survivor.
A warrior.
She is open, transparent, raw and at times uncensored.
Keren is white supremacy’s worst nightmare!
She has fought for Black and brown children in the schools in both Philadelphia, DC, Maryland and Manchester.
She has fought for affordable housing for Black and Brown people living in shelters.
She has fought for women who survived sexual assaults and domestic violence, realizing that crimes against women are not treated as a priority in our communities.
Being a sexual assault survivor herself, it was important for her to speak for all the women who felt that their voice had been silenced due to being re-victimized and re-traumatized by the system.
She has fought for representation in the schools in Manchester due to the lack of teachers of color, specifically Black teachers.
She has fought to get racism declared a public health crisis not only in Manchester but across the state and succeeded.
She has to get Juneteenth declared a paid holiday and succeeded.
She has fought to get a civilian review board in the town Manchester and succeeded.
Today, Keren is the President and CEO of PowerUp Ct; it has grown from protesting at “The Spot” to building several branches like PowerUp Coventry, PowerUp South Windsor, PowerUp UConn, PowerUp Windsor Locks and more to having an office on office on Hilliard Street, a pantry and mobile pantry, offering case management services, a program for Black and Brown vets that helps them financially with rent and utility payments… all of which has been built in less than a year since the inception of PowerUp.
Keren, a Black woman, has done more in a year to dismantle racism and to address the needs of the people than most people have done in a lifetime.
Keren not only deserves this time to retreat, rest, and restart but she deserve peace and Black Joy and reparations.
Keren is going on sabbatical July 1 to October 1 to reclaim her time, to dream new dreams, to spend time with her children. During this time she will be focusing on fundraising, developing programs, and expanding her vision not just for PowerUp but for her people.
After a year of fighting white supremacy, after being spit on by a white woman because Keren wanted to get racism declared a public health crisis, after fighting systems like the education system for her kids and the healthcare system to address her multiple sclerosis and brain tumor, it is time her to rest and for us to fight.
We can help fight white supremacy by paying micro reparations to Keren to allow her to go on a sabbatical for the next several months.
Please consider donating to let Keren take a much needed period of rest. If you are not in a place to donate, please share so others may donate or share as well.
This past year has been amazing, and we have so much more we have to do. We need our fearless leader to be rested up so we can continue this fight!
