For nearly 20 years, Ken Fredgren has been a quiet force for good in Northern Virginia. Now 86 and living with advanced Post-Polio Syndrome, he devoted his life to making our community more accessible, compassionate, and just.

A Legacy of Service

17 years leading the Reston Accessibility Committee. He works with businesses, the Reston Association, and RAC’s Accessibility Assessment Team across Reston to remove barriers and promote dignity and independence for all.

11 years supporting the Student Peace Awards of Fairfax County, formerly serving as SPA’s representative to Herndon High School and now serving as the sponsor outreach representative.

12 years co-coordinating the monthly Prayer Vigil for Peace, Life, and Justice at St. John Neumann parish in Reston.

Why Ken Needs Us Now

Ken’s health has declined, and he now requires full-time assisted living in a licensed accessible facility. His savings are nearly exhausted, and without support, he faces losing the safe housing he depends on. Asking for help is difficult for him—but the need is urgent.

Where Your Donations Will Go

We’re raising $75,000 to keep Ken in his current moderate, safe, dignified housing with the accessibility features he needs. This gives us the runway to secure a long-term, affordable housing solution that meets his medical and mobility needs. Qualified facilities have long waiting lists, necessitating continued support for Ken’s current housing in the interim.
