Spende geschützt
Friends, family, and compassionate strangers:
We’re fundraising for our daughter and sister, Kelsey, who is currently in the middle of the most terrifying and heartbreaking mental health crisis of her life. Kelsey, who lives in Seattle, was diagnosed with Bipolar I Disorder and ADHD in her mid-20s. Recently, she suffered a severe psychotic break, slipping into extreme paranoia and delusions that have endangered her safety and those around her.
Watching this unfold has been one of the most heartbreaking experiences of our lives. I’ve seen the vibrant, funny, kind sister I love disappear into a state of confusion, anger, fear, and isolation. She stopped recognizing us as her family. She became unable to distinguish reality, cut off communication with loved ones, and was living in complete disarray, locked inside her apartment and believing she was being surveilled. At one point, she threw the entire contents of her apartment out of a second-story window and threatened to jump.
For the past few weeks, we’ve exhausted every possible path to get her into care. We petitioned the court for a legal order for a psychiatric evaluation under Joel’s Law. Even after police and crisis responders witnessed her in a dangerous state, no action was taken. On the evening of April 29, she was finally taken into custody - not by the mental health system, but through the criminal one.
She is now in King County Jail, not a hospital, while still in psychosis.
This is not how the system should treat someone in a severe medical crisis.
We are doing everything in our power to get her released, stabilized, and into appropriate, compassionate care, but the financial burden is quickly growing. If you’ve ever loved someone who slipped beyond your reach, you know the desperation we feel. We just want her to be safe.
What Your Donation Will Help Cover:
- Legal advocacy to secure her release and fight for psychiatric diversion instead of incarceration
- Immediate housing, food, and transportation support once she is released
- Inpatient psychiatric care and ongoing mental health treatment
- Administrative and medical costs associated with court-mandated evaluations and psychiatric support
- Any essential services required to stabilize and safely reintegrate her into supported recovery
Every dollar raised goes directly toward ensuring Kelsey receives the care, safety, and dignity she deserves.
If you can’t donate, please consider sharing. And if you’ve walked through something like this yourself, know that you’re not alone. We see you.
With love and gratitude,
