My younger sister, Kelly, has had the toughest few months of her life—if she was playing ‘hard knocks bingo’ she would have hit blackout. Her last few weeks have read like a tragedy novel: a newly single mom, new debt she was not expecting, laid off her job, skin cancer and now fighting breast cancer. Reread that…yes, all those things happened within weeks of each other.
Any one of these challenges could singularly knock you off your feet and all of these challenges came one right after each other for Kelly. Some on the same day.
If you do not know her; I would love to introduce you. Kelly is the kindest, calmest, hardworking, smart and selfless person you will ever meet. She is an AMAZING mother to her seven-year-old daughter and has made sure her little girl is supported in every way possible. Kelly loves her hobby farm more than life itself – if you have a sick or injured animal in need, we all go to Kelly because of her gentle care. Kelly is always putting everyone before herself…think of the mom who never buys herself new shoes and eats the leftovers no one else wants to save on the grocery bill. She is also the most thoughtful gift giver in the world. She is always there for everyone else who needs support.
Kelly is stoically working through each trial with a positive spirit; however, she could use some immediate help to assist with medical bills, groceries and gas until she is able to go back to full time work. She’s had two surgeries for skin cancer on her shoulder (good news – this has not spread) and two weeks ago had a double mastectomy. She has one more major reconstruction surgery next week pending the outcome of some of the cancer testing. She will also need to have her wisdom teeth removed but is “dealing” with this pain because her body is already fighting so hard to heal.
She would not ask anyone for help, so I am stepping in to ask on her behalf. I am hoping by easing the immediate financial burden, even a small amount, it might make the healing process easier.
As much as financial support, Kelly needs prayers, positive thoughts and my hope is for her to know she is NOT alone in this fight. Even if you can’t afford to help monetarily, we wholeheartedly appreciate if you can keep her in your prayers. I do NOT know how she is still functioning, but that must be what moms, especially moms named Kelly, do.
Feel free to reach out to Kelly directly on Facebook or I can give you her contact info. I know positive thoughts and prayers may ease her worries and let her know she isn't in this fight alone.
Side notes: Kelly was reassigned in her position with the State of MN but it is far from ideal as she now has to commute to Chaska from Foley (2 hours each way). She has also used up her FMLA and PTO during these last few months. She is working every chance her body allows her. She continues to maintain her hobby farm (with a bit of help right now) and all the wonderful animals she has cared for all these years.
