Webster Pond May Close

Dear friends, family, and community members,

This is without a doubt the hardest message I have ever had to write, and it truly breaks my heart to share it. I am reaching out because Webster Pond is facing an urgent financial crisis, and without immediate support, we may be forced to reduce hours — or even close.

This year has been the most difficult one in my 29 years with the organization. Normally, our financial challenges happen during the winter months when donations slow down, and our annual fundraiser helps us get through. But this year is different. Our daily operating expenses have consistently outweighed our monthly donations, and we have nearly exhausted all reserve funds trying to stay afloat. We kept hoping business would improve, but it has not.

Because the Anglers no longer have an active or able-bodied membership, we’ve had to hire outside contractors for most property maintenance. On top of that, we’ve faced several emergency repairs, including roof work on two buildings, and we are still catching up on overdue bills to keep our vendors satisfied. As of today, we have enough funds to operate for **one more month**. After that, without significant support, we will be forced to close.

The possibility is devastating. Webster Pond has been a valley staple for nearly 67 years. Generations of families, school groups, seniors, and visitors have found peace, joy, and connection here. The outpouring of love and support we’ve received over the years has been incredible, and I am endlessly grateful. You are the reason the pond has been so successful.

I have always tried to use donations wisely, focusing on accessibility and improvements that benefit everyone. I hope those decisions have served the community well.

In 2021, when we were burglarized, the public raised over $16,000 and saved the pond. I will never forget that. Today, we are facing a crisis just as serious, and I am asking — humbly and urgently — for your help once again. Any amount, no matter how small, will make a difference.
