SouthWest RailCams is a family-owned network dedicated to bringing live railroad action to railfans across the United States and around the world.

One of our most popular locations is our Kingman, Arizona RailCam. Kingman is a special location for railfans, with trains passing through the historic railroad corridor throughout the day and night. Thousands of viewers have enjoyed watching the action from this camera, many of whom may never have the opportunity to visit Kingman themselves.

Unfortunately, the network equipment supporting the Kingman RailCam is getting old and has recently begun causing problems.

We are currently working with the ISP and the City to determine exactly where the problem is occurring. At this time, there are several possibilities, including an aging PoE switch, an older wireless access point, and the Netgear R6900v2 router that has been serving the camera system for years.

We are also working with the City to see if we can connect our system directly to the router using Ethernet. A hardwired connection would eliminate the wireless connection as a possible source of the problem and could greatly improve the reliability of the RailCam.

If a hardwired connection is not possible, we plan to replace the aging wireless access point and hopefully have the museum upgrade its router as well.

The museum has been a great partner in helping make the Kingman RailCam possible. However, we understand that their budget is very limited. Since the museum originally provided the internet service and router for the cameras, we are looking at ways that SouthWest RailCams and our railfan community can help with the cost of replacing the aging equipment.

For now, we have had to make some temporary changes to keep the PTZ camera operating as smoothly as possible. The PTZ has been reduced to 1.5 Mbps, and the West camera has temporarily been shut down to reduce the load on the network.

Our goal is not simply to get the camera working again. We want to replace the aging equipment with reliable, modern hardware so the Kingman RailCam can continue operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for years to come.

Donations will help SouthWest RailCams purchase the networking equipment needed to stabilize and improve the Kingman system. This may include a new router, wireless access point, PoE switch, Ethernet equipment, installation costs, and other necessary networking hardware.

SouthWest RailCams provides our RailCams free to the railfan community. We do not charge viewers to watch our cameras, and our goal has always been to make live railroad views available to everyone.
