Help keep the Downing girls together

Hi, my name is Kenye and never in a million years did I imagine myself in a position to ask for help like this for myself.

 

 

2 years ago in August, I ended an abusive relationship that spanned 6 years.  I obtained a restraining order, secured a new job and moved my younger 2 children with me and arranged for my eldest to complete her Senior year of high school in a safe environment with my college roommate & comadre. My ex verbally authorized the move, but later reneged when I tried to ratify in writing.

 

He prevented me from obtaining my belongings, subsequently sued me for custody and for the last 2 years kept me tied up in legal proceedings throughout a pandemic. He’s been allowed to use the system to abuse my family since he lacks physical access to us.

 

Collectively, all of my children have met with challenges that result from over 6 years of abuse, including PTSD, anxiety, depression and grief.

 

Even through job loss, a child in crisis and managing over a year of remote learning for 2 children and seeing a child off to college in the middle of a pandemic, I have navigated this process to keep full custody of our child.

 

I am happy to report that I have returned to work, but I also have to prepare for trial. This preparation is going to cost minimally $10,000. I’m asking for your help to help me continue to keep my baby safe at home, continuing to thrive with her sisters and I.

 

Please help my family continue to surge and begin to truly thrive through this experience.
