Help Keep the Christmas Card Lane Trains Running
Donation protected
Roger Zint was the founder of the Christmas Card Lane trains display in Rancho Penasquitos, at the northwest corner of Twin Trails Drive and Ellingham Street, in approximately 1990. Since then, the annual event has thrilled 10s of thousands of children of all ages, and has been supported by members of the community thru their efforts in setting up and running the trains, display maintenance, and repair or replacement of engines and cars as required.
When Roger passed in 2006, Bill Hober acquired all elements of the display and has kept the tradition going with the support of an ever changing crew from the community. Some of them have been participating for over 20 years. Something that Bill changed, which has been a huge success, is that with a little instruction he allows visiting children to operate the switches and trains.
We would like for this to be an ongoing tradition, but the costs of maintenance are increasing as components age. Track, switches and trains/engines need to be replaced. The display was recently recabled, at a cost of over $400, and the master control panel needs to be replaced now, too. New trains are hopefully in our future
Your contributions will help this be an ongoing feature of San Diego's Christmas Card Lane.
Thank you!
