Hello everyone, my name is Mai Yang.

My husband has been living in fear for the past year. An old immigration case from decades ago has resurfaced, putting him at risk of being torn away from the people who love him most. Despite years of growth, accountability, and building a life here, he remains vulnerable to detention and deportation. The thought of our family being ripped apart is unbearable. Nothing is more painful than the possibility of losing him.

Since learning that members of the Hmong community have been detained and deported, my husband has been unable to live without constant fear. I ask that you please take the time to read our story, share it, and consider supporting our fundraiser. We are urgently raising funds to secure a qualified immigration attorney to help protect him from deportation and keep our family together. Every contribution goes directly toward legal representation.

My husband came to the United States as a child after surviving war, displacement, and profound personal loss. Those early experiences left lasting scars, but they also shaped his resilience and compassion. He has spent his life creating a peaceful, responsible, and loving home. This country is the only home he truly knows.

Over the past year, we have made difficult adjustments to protect our family during this uncertain time. Our children rely on him emotionally every day — he is the person who keeps us grounded. Hearing and seeing families torn apart is more painful than words can describe, and I can’t imagine experiencing that with my own family. I want to fight this, and every bit of support brings us closer to keeping our family together.

If my husband were deported, everything in our lives would be shattered. We have been together for 20 years, and in many ways, we would be forced to start over from nothing. He would be sent to Laos, a country where he has no support system, no resources, and where the trauma of his childhood remains unresolved. The idea of him being sent back alone and unprotected is unimaginable. Losing him would not just be a tragedy — it would be the breaking of our family.

This is our home. This is the country where we belong. Being forced apart is a nightmare no family should ever face. We are scared, overwhelmed, and heartbroken, but we are still holding onto hope and believing in a second chance.

Please help us fight to stay together. Any support — whether through donations, sharing our story, or keeping us in your thoughts — brings us one step closer to safety and helps keep our family whole. Out of respect for our family’s safety and privacy, we are limiting personal details and not sharing photos at this time. We are deeply grateful for your understanding, compassion, and support. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading and for standing with us.
