I’m writing on behalf of my best friend and her family, who are currently facing an incredibly urgent and heartbreaking immigration situation. They are fighting to keep their family together, and they need our help!

Juan came to the United States in April 2022, hoping to build a better future. Shortly after arriving, he trusted the wrong people who promised to help him get permission to work legally. Having very little understanding of United States immigration law, regulations, and language, he was unknowingly misled and taken advantage of.

During this time, Juan met the love of his life, Alex. They built a real life together, welcoming their son in November 2024 and getting married in June 2025. They’ve been determined to do everything the right way in order to create a stable future for their family.

Earlier this year, they went through what they believed would be the final step in solidifying their immigration status, and they were hopeful that the dust was finally settling so they could make some real, tangible plans for their future together.

Just last week, they received devastating news.

Even though part of their case was accepted, the most important part was denied based on paperwork that had been submitted during the time Juan was being misled. The decision is incredibly accusatory, implying that he purposely misrepresented in order to defraud the government. But that could not be further from the truth. Juan, like many migrants, was exploited by people who abused his circumstance without regard for his future. Juan didn’t fully understand what was being done in his name, and now he is facing permanent separation from his family, and being banned from entering the US for the rest of his life.

To make things worse, during their interview, they hired a professional interpreter to make sure there was no misunderstanding. Their interpreter was told not to enter against their wishes. Consequently, there were moments where things were misunderstood, misconstrued, and answers had to be clarified by others who were not native-Spanish speakers in the room. It was by no means a fair playing field.

Because of this, their family is now facing the unthinkable.

They have very limited time to try to fix this, and nothing is guaranteed. They have already revoked Juan's work authorization, leaving them under intense financial and emotional pressure while caring for their young child.

They are now searching for an experienced removal defense attorney who can fight for them and help keep their family together. Legal fees are expected to be over $24,000, an overwhelming burden for a young family with a small child.
