Please Help Our Family Stay Home

For the last ten years, this country has been more than just a place where we live—it has been our home. It’s where my mother, my sister Rubi, and I have built our lives, shared our biggest dreams, and given everything we have to our community.

But today, our world has been turned upside down. We are currently in removal proceedings facing the terrifying reality of being deported. We are at risk of being sent back to a place where our safety is not guaranteed and our lives would be in danger. We are fighting to stay in the only home we truly know.

Why We are Fighting

If you know me, America, I have a passion for teaching and my heart is truly in the classroom and out in our community. I have always fought for my dreams, but never just for myself—I’ve fought so I could be a better daughter, a better teacher, and a source of strength for everyone around me. It is incredibly humbling to be in this position today, because if you know me, you know I am the person to step up when someone is in need. I’ve spent my life trying to be the kind of citizen this community deserves, and my only dream now is to be allowed to stay and continue giving back to the place I now call home.

My sister Rubi is the light of our family. She is currently a High School Senior, trying to enjoy the milestones of her final year while carrying a weight no teenager should have to bear. Rubi is the kind of person who never lets anyone feel left behind; she is always looking for ways to help her friends and the community. Her dream is to walk across that stage at graduation with her class and continue on to college. She has worked so hard to build a future here, and it breaks my heart to think she might not get to see it through.

Our mother is the heartbeat of our home. She is the most caring, hardworking woman I know. She has sacrificed everything to provide a safe, loving life for us and my 7-year-old brother Rubens. She isn’t just fighting for her own safety; she is fighting to keep our family together so my little brother can grow up with his sisters and a mother who loves him beyond measure. He is only seven—he needs us, and we need him.

The legal system is incredibly complex and, unfortunately, very expensive. We are not the type of people to ask for help, but to fight this case, we need expert legal representation. Funds raised will go directly toward retaining a specialized immigration attorney, covering legal filing fees, documentation, court costs, and services related to our defense. We know this is a mountain to climb, but we believe in the power of God and community.

Por qué estamos luchando

Si me conocen a mi, América, saben que tengo una gran pasión por la enseñanza y que mi corazón está en el salón de clases y en el servicio a mi comunidad. Siempre he luchado por mis sueños, pero nunca solo por mí—lo he hecho para ser una mejor hija, una mejor hermana, una mejor maestra y una fuente de fortaleza para quienes me rodean. Es muy duro y humilde estar en esta situación, porque quienes me conocen saben que siempre soy la primera en ayudar cuando alguien lo necesita. He pasado mi vida intentando ser el tipo de persona que esta comunidad merece, y hoy mi único sueño es que me permitan quedarme y seguir aportando al lugar que ahora llamo hogar.

Mi hermana Rubi es la luz de nuestra familia. Actualmente cursa su último año de preparatoria, tratando de disfrutar los momentos importantes de esta etapa mientras carga con un peso que ningún adolescente debería llevar. Rubi es una persona que nunca deja a nadie atrás; siempre busca la manera de ayudar a sus amigos y a la comunidad. Su sueño es poder caminar en el escenario el día de su graduación junto a su generación y continuar con sus estudios universitarios. Rubius ha trabajado muy duro para construir un futuro aquí, y me rompe el corazón pensar que podría no verlo realizado.

Nuestra mamá es el corazón de nuestro hogar. Es la mujer más cariñosa y trabajadora que conozco. Ha sacrificado todo para darnos una vida segura y llena de amor, a nosotras y a nuestro hermano menor Rubens, de 7 años. Ella no solo está luchando por su propia seguridad, sino por mantener unida a nuestra familia para que nuestro hermanito pueda crecer con sus hermanas y con una mamá que lo ama más que a nada. Él es solo un niño—nos necesita, y nosotros lo necesitamos a él.

El sistema legal es increíblemente complejo y, lamentablemente, muy costoso. No somos personas que acostumbren pedir ayuda, pero para poder defender nuestro caso necesitamos representación legal especializada. Los fondos recaudados se destinarán directamente a contratar a un abogado de inmigración con experiencia, cubrir cuotas legales, trámites, costos de la corte y otros servicios necesarios para nuestra defensa. Sabemos que es una batalla difícil, pero creemos en el poder de Dios y de la comunidad.
