For the fifth consecutive year, the Arab-American CDC and South Kensington Community Partners are partnering to provide a Thanksgiving food giveaway to community members in need - who live, work, or worship in eastern North Philadelphia. We are also joined for a third year by the Office of State Senator Nikil Saval.

This annual giveaway grew out of free food distribution efforts that began in the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, the level of disruption to community members’ lives and livelihoods seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime event. To our dismay, we find ourselves in unprecedented and challenging times again.

This year, community members who rely on SNAP to feed their families may not get their benefits. At a time of escalating targeting of immigrant communities, many of our neighbors are understandably fearful of interacting with public programs. In the background, rising food costs are stressing the budgets of a growing number of households.

We are committed to removing as many barriers for food giveaway participants as possible. We don’t ask for IDs or proof of SNAP eligibility. We don’t collect or share any participant information unless they choose to provide it. Our number one priority is getting food to neighbors in need.
