Maria* is a longtime member of our community, and she needs our support. Originally from Central America, she and her three young children have worked, played, and built community in the DMV for years. Her little boys are very smart and excel in school, they especially love math class. They also love riding their bikes and playing soccer, and the whole family loves playing together in the park.

But now, after a devastating year and half of the pandemic--during which Maria has not been able to find work--she and her three young children are facing eviction. Maria applied for relief from the county as soon as she was eligible, but after months of waiting, she was recently denied support with her rent. She now owes several months of back rent and cannot pay it on her own. She is looking for work constantly but simply cannot make ends meet.

Maria and her children are living on their own after fleeing a dangerous situation in their previous house, and they have been working hard to build a home for themselves in spite of the challenges they face. But this back rent bill is insurmountable on their own, and they are asking for support from our community.
