On the morning of October 22nd, our family was changed in an instant. Luis Gutiérrez — father of four U.S.-citizen children and a resident of the United States for 15 years — was detained by immigration officers after dropping off our youngest child at school in Nevada.

Luis has built his life here. His children are rooted here.

• Our oldest is a Navy veteran.

• Our second son is on active duty in the U.S. Navy, and just got back from a 10 month deployment overseas.

• Our third is a freshman in high school.

• Our youngest, only 12, lives with Luis for school reasons and is devastated by his sudden absence.

Luis’s partner is a server with limited income. The legal costs to defend his case are high and urgent. We are asking for help to keep him from being deported and torn permanently from his children.
