My name is Mindy and I am starting this fundraiser on behalf of my partner, Matthias, and his 11 year old son, Luca. Some of you may already be aware that Luca’s mother is trying to move away with Luca to California this Summer. We cannot let this happen. Matthias is prepared to fight this all the way, but we need help with the legal fees. This fundraiser is to cover the cost of having representation all the way through an impending trial.

Luca needs to stay here, close to his dad, extended family, chosen family, baseball family, and the family Matthias and I have built together. My son, John, and Luca have developed a very sweet brotherly connection. Luca feels at home with us, and he is! After witnessing my son develop an amazing bond with Matthias…I can’t imagine a boy losing a close connection to father like him. Matthias is very supportive and involved in his life. Moving to California is by far not in the best interest of Luca.

An 11 year old, moving to a small town, far from his dad and any other family or friends to support him…and starting over with baseball when he has already made a name for himself in a travel team with coaches who see his talent and value…would be devastating. He has repeatedly expressed that he does not want to leave.

Asking for help is difficult. Matthias and I are so grateful for the love you all give us and our boys. Anything you can offer to help is appreciated more than you could possibly know. A thousand thank yous.

I will keep you updated on our progress in the legal process. He has filed an objection to her notice of intent to move. There is still a lot of work (and advocating for Luca) to do.
